The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Michigan reached $4.94 on Friday. That's a jump of 13 cents from Thursday's average price of $ 4.80. The national average for a gallons of regular Unleaded gas is at $4,76.

"Gas prices are really outrageous right now," says Timberley Williams of Detroit. She's rationing her gas purchases now that it costs her about $80 for a full tank. Rob Moore of Detroit, who works for the city, was blunt about the $85 cost to fill the tank of his Infiniti.

A year ago, Michigan motorists were paying an average of $3.03 for a gallon of regular unleaded gas. As of Friday, the average price for diesel was $5.45 per gallon. AAA Michigan says motorists are likely to change their driving habits, but how remains to be seen.

A year ago, an average gallon of diesel was selling for $3.21. Experts blame the increase in pump prices partially on the growing demand for gasoline. Other factors include fallout from the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, and a Saudi-Russian brokered cap on oil production.
