Families of victims and survivors of Champlain Towers South collapse agree to settlement. 98 people died in the collapse in Surfside, Florida, that killed 98 people. Three defendants in wrongful-death lawsuit have agreed to settle for more than $55 million. Another defendant, DeSimone Consulting Engineers, has also settled.

Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Michael Hanzmann has preliminarily approved the settlement. The victims ranged in age from 1 to 92 years old. Becker reiterated its denial of responsibility "for the collapse or the resulting damage" "The settlement amount is based on the decision of our insurance carriers," the firm says.

Morabito issued a statement last month denying any culpability in the collapse. He acknowledged the tragedy "shocked and saddened the entire team" The statement said a settlement was agreed to because the families deserve compensation. "We are pleased this matter was quickly resolved," Morabito said.
